There are some places that have left their mark on people’s hearts, there is a sense of nostalgia that is created. Nathan’s Famous is just one of these places, now of course Nathan’s Famous can be found all over, in malls, airports, even in your grocery store. However, Nathan’s Famous at Coney Island is where it all started.

Nathan and Ida Handwerker opened the Coney Island location on the corner of West 15th Street and Surf Ave in 1961.  The building has a main walk up and order area. There are separate walk up areas if you are looking for just a hot dogs or want to stand at the clam bar. After ordering and receiving your food, grab your condiments, plastic silverware and napkins at the condiment station located outside the front of the building. You can take your food to go perhaps walk along the boardwalk or there are several umbrella tables located to the right of the building (this is also the location of the restrooms). Although the building has been updated over the year the menu has not. Before walking up to the order window make sure you take a few minutes to look at the Nathan’s Famous Original Menu, there seafood, burgers, chicken, cheesesteaks, ice cream and milkshakes…and of course Hot Dogs. The most icon menu item that you must try is the Frog Legs. It is only at the original Nathan’s Famous can you find frog legs on the menu. They are tender like chicken, a little greasy and have a light pepper flavoring in the batter. A delicious add on to your experience.
